An overarching Big Bad, “show mythology” or uber-arc is not necessary. Tell a good enough story and people will come back for another experience like that next time.
The story is pretty sexy, but I’ve always identified with Don and Peggy and all of those characters. They’re multiple sides of my personality, and I’m thrilled there’s an audience out there that’s not threatened by investigating what’s wrong with us. And that’s why there’s no judgment. A lot of entertainment is about making you feel that you’re OK. That’s what Don says in the Pilot. But life is more complicated than that.

Punk was fun, but No Future isn’t interesting. You can’t deny the future. My favourite line from the fine piece of postmodernism that is DEADWOOD is “You do not fuck the future, sir. The future fucks you.” No Future is fear of the future, inability to cope with the future, the inability to desire — desire was a key postpunk word, as in the politics of desire, the philosophy of desire — and is ultimately fuckless. And no-one wants a fuckless future.

It’s probably one of the best pieces of television I’ve ever seen. The only problem with it is that it makes everything else looks kind of sad and poorly written and poorly conceived.

Lost” has the unique opportunity of proving you can build a narrative of mesmerizing implausibility that ultimately turns out to be entirely plausible simply by changing one elemental rule of the universe—and then not telling your audience about the rule change until the third act. Mainstream entertainment toys with the conventions of reality constantly (see Back to the Future, or pretty much every Jim Carrey movie) but invariably it lets the audience in on the rule changes early in the story. “Lost,” not surprisingly, is playing hard-to-get with its revelations: not just in the backstory and mythology of its characters, but the basic laws of the genre.

Foda.

Não duvide se o último episódio de Lost for assistido por todo o mundo simultaneamente, como um último episódio de novela das oito, só que em escala planetária.
